Penpoll is a much loved
family holiday home, cheerfully decorated and well equipped; it
will appeal to families with young children as well as to older
age groups who like their comforts and appreciate the odd
antique, interesting books and pictures. However, it should be
noted that due to the steep slopes and many steps between levels
in the garden, Penpoll is not ideal for the very elderly, or
those in wheelchairs.
Two families can be comfortably accommodated in the pretty
bedrooms, all of which enjoy a view of the river. The bedrooms
are laid out as follows: one king sized double bedroom, with an
extra single bed, second king sized double room with its own
terrace, one twin bedroom and through to a children’s room with
three single beds. A cot and highchair are both supplied. The
beds have top quality feather pillows and duvets, but the
children’s beds have synthetic filled duvets for ease of
cleaning. Please note, for those with feather allergies, you can
request beds to be made up using synthetic filled pillows and/or
duvets. |

There are two upstairs
bathrooms; one family sized room with a large roll top bath, the
other is smaller, nest to the children’s room with a large
shower. Both have complementary White Company and Crabtree &
Evelyn toiletries. |

Downstairs, the comfortable
sitting room has a woodburner, flatscreen TV, Sky, DVD and Video
and telephone. There is WIFI broadband available. The shelves
are stocked with a variety of good holiday books and there are
plenty of family games and dvds to choose from, for the odd
rainy day. The cushioned window seats are
perfect for book lovers, from where you can also keep an eye on
river life outside, and very occasionally, our shy friend, the
kingfisher at work.
The dining room has a large table, which comfortably seats 10
people and a cosy cream Aga provides additional warmth. There is
a serving table and hotplate.
The bright and pretty kitchen is well equipped with electric
oven and hob, microwave, large fridge-freezer, dishwasher,
double sink, big larder and a table with seating for four,
perfect for young children’s breakfast and teatime. There is a
spacious utility room with an extra drinks fridge, washing
machine and drier, clothes rack and plenty of storage space for
coats and boots, plus a downstairs toilet. |
